BRANCH - SHOP, WAREHOUSE

From a system point of view a branch can be either a retail shop, a wholesale shop with distribution centres or a combination of both. An example of such a combination is the so-called Cash & Carry market where purchases can be made at the cash register or invoiced to companies. Individual shops can vary in size and equipment. The system can also be used in very small counters where one computer combines the functions of the branch unit and the POS at the same time. In addition to standard branches with several POS and a branch manager's workplace, other areas of application of the system are in large shopping centers with dozens of POS and scales as well as workstations.

In grocery shops, additional peripheral devices are usually connected to the system. For example labelling scales for the sale of weighed items, price checkers, reverse vending machines for the return of returnable bottles and crates, electronic price tags or wireless WLAN terminals for data collection.

A special type of branches are for example counter shops with weighted items (meat, sausage, vegetables) where the system is integrated directly into the counter scales. Another specialized type of shop is a petrol station where typical petrol station technology such as petrol pumps, price sign totems, level gauge in tanks or self-service fuelling terminals are connected.
